Price Increases Starting 19 June
TLDR; We have changed plywood suppliers for both quality and environmental reasons. Get in quick for new wood at old prices!
THE LONG VERSION
We are constantly refining our supply chain here at SLAB to ensure we are offering the highest quality products to our customers for the best price. We believe in automation for the efficiency and reliability benefits, as well as freeing up our fellow kiwis time for more important things!
Materials are the other half of our supply chain and although we can minimise waste to ensure we get the most from each sheet, we are largely dependent on the market when it comes to what sheets we use. It’s an important decision which we take care to ensure quality and cost are balanced as well as considering the environmental impact of each option.
We have recently had issues with reject parts due to imperfections in our sheets which sparked an investigation in to alternative suppliers. We also discovered that although the sheets we use are made using NZ-grown wood, the logs are shipped to China for lamination. This seems crazy to us!
For these reasons, we have begun transitioning our parts to a new supplier with much higher quality sheets and a 100% NZ manufacturing process - from seed to sheet. The catch is an increase in cost that we simply cannot afford to absorb. We are confident however that you will notice the difference in quality and see your rack last even longer!
We will be gradually raising our prices on a product by product basis from next Monday, ensuring we clear out all old parts before doing so. Some are already using the new sheets!
